I installed Windows 7 Ultimate (32bit) on my Compaq Presario CQ57. Now I want to download the W-Lan driver for this model. But in the network driver section which contains 12 elements, there are an unbeleavable 5! Different wlan drivers from various companies. Realtek (2 different ones) Ralink Broadcom Atheros I suppose there is 1 Wlan adapter installed in the laptop, why are there drivers for 5 different ones?

How should I know which one is build in my particular laptop model?! I am pretty desperate right now. And where is the indicator on the outside of the machine which tells me, which exact model it is? There is only one label which says Compaq Presario CQ57. Now I know that I got 1 of the 100 different CQ57's.

HP and other PC manufacturers, Dell for instance, put a full range of drivers attendant to a certain model series on a support page. Accordingly, HP has to provide drivers for all the CQ57 builds that come with different wireless cards than the one your specific model has. It may not be convenient, but I suppose it is easier (and less costly) for the company to shotgun drivers out, than to tailor the thousands of model support pages with specific drivers.

You have to look at the situation both ways, not just from your perspective. And now that you know what model wireless card your notebook has, you will never have to waste time again wondering what driver to install.
